Agency to inspect rivers near Avachinsky Bay rivers on Monday

MOSCOW, Oct 5 (PRIME) -- The Federal Fisheries Agency will inspect the rivers that run into the Avachinsky Bay in the Kamchatka Peninsula for contamination with oil products on Monday, Dmitry Klokov, head of the agency’s press service, told PRIME on October 4.

Previously, surfers reported that the waters near the Khalaktyrsky bay in Kamchatka changed color and started hurting their eyes and skin. Specialists discovered that content of oil products in the water exceeded the maximum allowable concentration by 150%, and the content of phenols exceeded it by 2 times.

“On October 4, specialists of the territorial department made another inspection of the Khalaktyrsky beach and of the Malaya Lagernaya, Srednyaya Lagernaya, and Bolshaya Lagernaya bays, as well as the Spaseniya Bay, together with the specialists of the Kamchatka branch of the Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography. They took samples of water, sand, and biomaterials from drop-out fish. … Some of the samples will be transported to Moscow shortly, as there is a larger arsenal for a careful analysis there,” Klokov said.

“For October 5, inspection of the rivers that flow into the Avachihnsky Bay -- the Nalycheva, Tayenka, Sukhaya rivers and others -- was scheduled. They will take samples of water, sand, and possible dropouts of fish.”

He also said that a criminal case was launched over violation of an article of the Code on Administrative Offences on violation of a special regime of business activity or other types of activities in a coastal buffer zone of a water body.
